Partnership. Investment. Impact. These words capture the spirit of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and are central to everything we do at Retool Your School.
Since 2009, we’ve been working hand-in-hand with HBCUs, supporting campuses and communities to create places where students learn and thrive. Now, 16 years into our journey, we couldn’t be more proud of the impact we’ve made together.
In that time, we’ve awarded more than $15 million through our Campus Improvement, Innovation Lounge and Community Project Grants. From renovated classrooms to modernized campus spaces, we’ve helped spark change that’s tangible, meaningful and lasting.
Growing the Retool Your School Community
This year, nine additional HBCUs received Retool Your School grants for the very first time, including Selma University, Allen University, Shelton State Community College, University of the Virgin Islands – St. Croix, Arkansas Baptist College, Harris-Stowe State University, J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College, Shaw University, and Shorter College. By partnering with these new schools, we’re helping more campuses make important upgrades and support student success.
Removing Barriers, Increasing Impact
This year, we’ve updated how schools receive Retool Your School grants—shifting away from voting toward a simplified application process. This change helps ensure resources can efficiently reach campuses, empowering them to focus fully on impactful projects and student success.
Building a Legacy That Lasts
We’re committed to making changes that last. Every new classroom, student center or community space funded by our grants isn’t just a short-term upgrade—it’s an investment in long-term success. We’re proud to help create environments where students can excel academically, grow personally and succeed for generations to come.
The Journey Ahead
Celebrating 16 years feels great—but the real celebration is being experienced through the impact of our work. We’re committed to strengthening partnerships and providing support exactly where it’s needed most on HBCU campuses. At The Home Depot, we’re always looking for ways to help shape brighter futures for these inspiring campuses and their incredible students.
Stay connected with us as we continue to create impactful change.
