I’m Nevoy Shepherd, a third-year Business Administration scholar from Miami, FL, currently enrolled at the nation’s top-ranked public HBCU, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. Alongside my studies, I proudly serve as a Resident Assistant on Florida A&M University’s campus, a role that entails much more than academic responsibilities. Being an RA comes with its perks, including a 50% discount on housing and the privilege of having a more spacious room all to myself.
During my initial two years in college, returning to my dorm after classes, games, or church didn’t provide the warm and welcoming feeling I had hoped for. However, it wasn’t until I became involved with the #RetoolYourSchool program that I was able to acquire pieces for my room that not only enhanced its aesthetic appeal but, most importantly, elevated its overall comfort and coziness.
I would like to express my gratitude to Home Depot and the #RetoolYourSchool program for affording me the opportunity to leverage my content creation skills in showcasing how Home Depot played a pivotal role in transforming my dorm into a true home away from home. As a first-generation college student, navigating the unfamiliar terrain of college life presented its challenges. One of my top priorities was ensuring that my living space on campus was not just functional but also comfortable.
